Healthy Eating and a Positive Teacher
The Um Al Aalaa Primary School launched a wide set of initiatives in support of wellbeing, notably the “Healthy Food” initiative, a positive initiative aimed at enhancing the health of female students by instilling in them the skills and information needed to encourage healthy eating habits and adopt a healthy lifestyle, by cooking school meals that comply with health standards. The initiative also aims at encouraging students to eat healthy and adopt a healthy lifestyle. It basically contributed to a significant change in students' interest in healthy food.
In the school environment pillar, the school launched the “My school, My Responsibility” initiative, which includes several activities and behaviors to serve the school environment and to provide students with the opportunity to so some volunteer work in service of the school environment. The initiative aims at promoting the safety of school property, maintaining cleanliness of classrooms and enhancing green space around the school.
In the teachers’ pillar, the school launched the “Positive Teacher” initiative, which aims at shedding the light on the positive role played by teachers, which reflects on students’ wellbeing. Through this initiative, female students were asked to show positive appreciation to their teachers. The initiative encouraged positive relationships between teachers and students, by providing students with the opportunity to honor their teachers on Teachers’ Day and by dedicating a special area where students can express their impressions and feelings towards their teachers in writing. The initiative boosted communication and enhanced ties between students and teachers and inculcated female students with positive values and behaviors.
Commenting on these initiatives, Sharifa Al Dhanhani, Principal of Um Al Aalaa Primary School, said: "Our school has adopted the positive education approach in its operational plans and daily school life in accordance with the pillars of the Well Schools Network, which was launched by the National Program for Happiness and Wellbeing. Through its programs, objectives, events and the design of its activities and initiatives, the school focused on the network’s key pillars to promote positive education based on the wellbeing of its students and teachers, so as to enhance positive wellbeing in education. The key pillars were the Student and Family, Teachers, Society and the School Environment”.
