Al Watan Nursery and School
Mothers’ Participation and a Positive School Environment
Al Watan School launched several initiatives in support of the Well Schools Network’s pillars. In the Society pillar, the school sponsored a project titled “My, Identity, My Responsibility”, which sheds the light on the valuable role of the Mothers’ Council at school and their influence in instilling the national identity in the spirit of all school community members, employees and visitors. It also helps individuals understand their role and potentials in service of the country. As part of the project, mothers organized multiple events that focus on national identity under the school’s supervision. The project also helps to promote interaction between the family and school, since mothers are the ones that are implementing the project. The project achieved positive results by acquainting students with the Emirati traditions and ethics and change of behavior and transformed the school environment into an attractive environment through events that hone students’ personalities to achieve the positive education goals championed by the Well Schools Network.
In the Student and Family pillar, the school launched the “Positivity Stars” initiative that aims at enhancing interaction skills between students and the various segments of the school community. Students collect stars from teachers, administrative employees and school employees to reward their positive behavior and can later exchange stars for gifts. This initiative enhanced positive behaviors in the classroom and the bus. It also engaged all school employees in the process to guide students, to disseminate the student behavior culture and to link it to academic and behavioral improvement and remuneration.
In this context, Amina Sultan Saleh Al Marzouki, Social Worker at Al Watan Nursery and School, said: “We extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Well Schools Network and the National Program for Happiness and Wellbeing for their efforts to document every useful and revamped school and community initiatives. These initiatives have had a significant impact on the various segments of the school community. We are grateful for the good results that we managed to achieve through our initiatives within the Well Schools Network, and for the significant impact on enhancing students’ positive behaviors and ultimately their academic level. Our interaction with mothers and their unprecedented participation in school activities has transformed our school into a positive environment. We shall work on an additional number of initiatives in the upcoming stage under the Well Schools Network’s four pillars.”
